Be Silly Sometimes

Some people will tell you
There’re words not to say
Nouns you better not speak out loud
Verbs you must tuck away
But
I think this advice is
Only partly true
Adjectives you may not say now
Later are overdue

So

Be silly sometimes
Just not through all the day
At school in class you shouldn’t sass
At recess jokes should stay
Yes
Be silly sometimes
But not through all the day

When teacher points at you
When you raise your hand
“poo-skee” or “pee-pots” or “bumface”
Are words that should be banned
But
If you’re sitting with Gramps
After dinner time
And you hear a sound like a duck
“pee-yew” fits in just fine

So

Be silly sometimes
Just not through all the day
You pick and choose the words to use
Know when it’s time to play
Yes
Be silly sometimes
But not through all the day

If you meet Daddy’s boss
At a barbecue
“fatso”, “stinker”, or “squid-face-twit”
Are between dad and you
But
If you’re feeling goofy
Don’t get all distraught
You might try and write a verse
Of words that rhyme with “shnot”

Yes

Be silly sometimes
Just not through all the day
Silly phonics are good tonics
But careful when you say
Oh
Be silly sometimes
(Silly now is okay!)
